The Quran: It is a book of LAW

Tuesday, 29 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

I had a chat with Jannat in the social evening in law school this evening. She was telling how at first there was huge people attending the Islamic Finance Law class. These people came from different religious beliefs-Christians, Islam etc. However, as the class had go on for two weeks, less people turn up to this class and left only the Muslims in that class. Then I asked why? Jannat said is because the lecturer touched about syariah and Quran which, make some other believers uncomfortable about it especially when the lecturer mentioned about the Quran.

So here, I thought if my friends from different religions read this, I really hope they understand what I'm trying to say. The Quran that the Muslims hold is not only about religious things like in Bible. It covers most laws in our lives which include, Criminal laws i.e hudud, Equity and Trusts (which I was supprised as well when I read it), Financial laws etc. I really feel grateful that I took law as my major because when I started to read the Quran translation I can understand every laws that God have gave us.

In the first two chapters of the Quran, God mentioned about the history of God's books of law which started from Zabur (by Prophet Noah A.S), Torah (by Prophet Moses A.S), Injil (by Prophet Jesus A.S) and Quran (by Prophet Muhammad S.A.W). But for today, God said that we should rely on Quran because that is the latest version of laws as the other previous books have been altered by humans. The Quran verses, as I read are very general and thus the only interpretations of those verses that we could rely are those made by the Prophet Muhammad (known as Sunnah) and other reliable wise people (known as hadis). God has promised that the Quran would never be altered by any human being, therefore it's 100% realiable. Meaning even though how old it is, it can fit any environment.

So for example like wearing hijab or scarf, in the Quran it didn't say that the Muslim women must wear hijab but in general terms it says Muslim women must covers the bosom and reveal only the approriate beauty. But there are three hadis interpretations on this term which, cover the head with reason, cover the face i.e purdah with reason and cover the approriate part with reason. This is one of the examples of law for women that God mentioned in the Quran. Another examples in Hudud law which is criminal law, one of it is cut the hand of the theft. Well, when I first read it, sounds really harsh right? But when I went on to read the next verse God said that in order to apply this punishment it must be dealed with care; reasonable evidences and justice. Meaning if let say a Defendant (the person being accused) stealed money from someone, the judge must consider why the Defendant did that and whether what he was doing harm the society.

Ok, I won't talk much about the Quran, because what I'm trying to say here is that the Quran is not only about religious belief despite that it asked us to belief in one God; it's more about rules and laws for the human. Islam means harmony or happiness. In order for the humans to feel happy and live in harmony is to follow the laws and rules. You know like we are doing right now following the laws made by the Parliament. One thing I don't realize about some Muslims religious people; why do they have to take things very complicated when the Quran terms are very simple and general.

It was a sunny day today and my luck was as good as the sun. What am I talking about? Anyway, I've submitted my emphirical method coursework at 2pm. In time. Yay! One more and the last coursework to go! Can't wait to start but lazy (huh?) Nothing much to say just feel like telling everyone I've successfully finished the statistic coursework!

Dilemma Solved!

Wednesday, 23 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

As I told you before in my previous entry that I was having some dilemma in choosing the right subjcets etc. After discussing with Robert Heverley, my personal advisor, I've decided to remain to my current subjects and voluntarily attend the Advanced Competition class. I've also talked to Pinar Akman and explained my situation and she said that it's fine, but it's just that she doesn't want me to be left behind. So sweet of her :)

Another suprise news for today is that I received a postcard from Dr. Arianna, my ex-lecturer during undergraduate. Feel very happy and much more confidence with my LLM programme after reading the postcard because I can feel that everybody is supporting me. All I can say is THANKS!

Salsa Aerobic is back!

Friday, 18 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

I'm feeling very happy today because I've started to go to Salsa Aerobic class again. New term of course new aerobic steps. It was very intensive moves today and I sweat a lot too. Hopefully, I will lose the 4kg which I gained last holidays. If not, maybe there is something with the weighing machine.

Dilemma

Wednesday, 16 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

I'm in dilemma. I've met Pinar Akman. She said if it is possible for me to take an extra credit, she requested me to enroll in Advanced Competition. She said it would be an advantage for me. Later, she emailed me again saying that even if the General Office didn't allow me to take up extra credit, I can still join the class. Actually, before she emailed me I've talked to the General Office staffs and they told me I can do that if it is approved by another department which I can't remember what is called who has the discretion regarding this matter. But, the staffs advised me to talk to Robert Heverly, my personal advisor. I've emailed Robert and he replied saying that the Law School never allow students to take more credits which mean it's totally impossible. However, he suggested me to take the regular disertation which only take 30 credit hours and take up the Advanced Competition Class.

Ok, now I'm a little confuse myself. I mean the decision depends on what I want. I just don't know which one should I choose. I mean what is the advantage/disadvantage of taking 60 credits disertation and the advantage/disadvantage of taking 30 credits disertation and another 30 credits of advanced competition. I mean, Pinar has allowed me to attend the class without being assessed. So, should I change my current position or not? Sigh...

Pinar Akman wants to see me?

Tuesday, 15 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

I'm suprised that Pinar Akman the head of Advanced Competition Law class wants to see me because I didn't choose the unit. She wants to know my reason. Well, actually I wanted to take that unit BUT the thing is my credit hours have reached 180 which means full total. So what does she expect? I have no choice. Unless, she allows me to join the class for fun without being assessed. However, when I look at the assessment description, is not that hard. You just need to write a report of 1600 words and a review of someone else project for 4000 words which now I'm thinking of doing it. Hey hey Ernie, don't be greedy.

Bravo!

Dear Bloggy,

Finally! I've done my essay. Yay!!! Vanita did the proof reading for me and alamak! so many gramatical mistakes! I always confuse with which tense should I use and I think Vanita must have been confused with my sentences too. Hehehe. Anyway, I felt relief. One more coursework to go for next next week submission. It's on emphirical methods which, I've not started yet. Aiyo. Lazy la...

Regarding my another blog. I've decided to keep it. So pls pls do visit "a piece of cake".

Children been missing in Malaysia

Friday, 11 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

Today, the newspaper was hit with the stories of missing children which are mostly girls age around 5-8 years old. First, Nurin was missing and then police found her body. Now more children being reported missing and 2 men are being suspected. This remind me of 13 years back when I was 12 years old. At that time, the story of Tin the boy who went missing and untraced until now was a great issue. I'm not going to tell further about Tin; in fact it's the story about my friends and I. We were almost been kidnapped by two men in a red car. I didn't tell this to my mom; if she knows about this she wouldn't allow me to wonder around anymore. My friends-Shar and her brother Farhan (we called him Boy)and me went to our friend's Raya open house near the Maxwell Hill in Taiping. We thought of buying some ice cream so we walked to the nearest foodstalls near the Maxwell Hill area. On the way, there was a red car. Two men; where one was inside the car at the driver seat and another was leaning at the carboot. The one who was outside the car asked us some questions (well I can't remember what he asked) but I'm not sure whether we answer him or not. Then he was coming near us trying to force us into the car. We were so scared that the three of us ran as fast as we can until we got into one of the foodstall. The two men drove around the Maxwell Hill area and waited in front of the foodstalls like few minute then left. We stayed in the stall until we made sure they were gone. When we were assure that they were gone, we quickly ran back to our friend's house. Fuhh... that was close! I really can't imagine what would happened to me if I were kidnapped. I just hope that God will protect my niece and nephew because they are still young and innocent. Also, I hope that those children who are missing now could be found soon. Here is a link of the blog by Nurin's uncle "In Memory of Nurin Jazlin"

Cinderella III: Twist in Time

Dear Bloggy,

Faith is always a faith. If you were born to be lucky no matter how evil try to make your day bad luck it always end with good luck. This reflects the movie I just watched last night. A Walt Disney cartoon, Cinderella III and it was out last year. It's awesome and creative. I tried to find Cinderella II but was not in the movie streaming website I'm using currently. So nvm. Anyway, the sypnosis of Cinderella (Cindy)III was like this. Yes, all of us know right Cindy had lived happily ever after in Cinderella I. However, one of her stepsisters, Anastasia found out that the FairyGodMother had helped her all this while using magic stick. So she stole the magic stick and gave to the evil Cindy's stepmother. The magic stick has been used by the stepmother to revenge. She turned back the time to the past where the Cindy's was supposed to fit the glass shoe brought by the Palacemen. By using the magic stick, the shoe fit Anastasia and it has always be her dream to marry a Prince of True Love. Well, I'm not going to tell whats the ending. It is a must watch movie. Could the Prince be Anastasia's true love or is it going to be another happily ever after ending again for Cindy?

The trailer of the movie:

Gain Weight?!!

Thursday, 10 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

All this while I always confident that my weight is 54kg (BMI normal for my height). Recently, I weight myself using Wang Wen's weighing machine and was shocked that I gained 4kg! OK lets just recalled what I've ate last year. I did ate trife once a week last year. I also bought lots of cheese and cooked bake pasta. I didnt go to swimming once a week; instead once a month. I was stress and I ate more than usual portion. I drank coffee a lot too. Oh no! So starting from tomorrow I'm joining back my salsa aerobic class and will go swimming as often as I can. Yup. Gambate!

Relief

Wednesday, 9 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

Alhamdulillah, syukur to Allah that I have done the exam well. Hmm, I know the result is not out yet and I shouldn't be too confident but it's ok. I need to learn to be confidence once in a while. The questions were reasonable; not hard neither too easy. As long as I revise the importance parts insyaAllah I will succeed. So next thing to do is my Competition Law essay. I have another 1200 words to go. Wang Wen suggested me to do 300 words per day since I have 3 more days to finish it. Well, I think I would do that. If I have enough strength and good mood, I might do more than 300 words per day. However, today I'm going to watch a movie as a credit for the effort I've made for today's test.
Hehehe...

This is what you should do with GBP100 in London

Thursday, 3 January 2008
Dear Bloggy,

These what I have spent with GBP100 I have in my pocket.

1) I have spent the evening by watching musical theatre in one of the best theatre arena in London. Cost only GBP15.00 student price. It's really worth it. Trust me.

2)London is quite dirty with smoke and dust. So I got a shampoo from Harrods which cost GBP2.95. It is made from honey and I've used it three times. I think it's good.

3)I've been looking forward to bodyshop offers on body butter. Half price from normal price but even cheaper with the card club which only cost me GBP10.80. Lovely!

4)Thanks to Wang Wen for letting me try the Versace she bought from Harrods. I like so I bought one for myself. Price after sales in Harrods: GBP14.50. Also, got a box of perfume set for Along but it's from Elizabeth Arden. I have wrapped Along's gift so can't see the original look cos it won't be suprise for Along then. The gift cost me GBP19.95.

5)The first day I went to Harrods I've aimed for this purse because of the red colour and the word "Harrods". The next day I went to Harrods again and got this purse with only GBP9.95. I know it's quite expensive but it's ok once in the blue moon. Sadly, just saw the tag that it was made from China. Sigh...

6)My blue bag from Accesorize has spoilt so I have to get another bag. This is a bit of change for my bags collection style. Got this from one Japanese shop in Oxford street, London. There was an offer. The price after the offer was GBP9.99.

7)Well I think the bag looks too plain. At first I wanted to get a brooch for my bag then dunno why I decided to get the key chain bear instead. Plus it can be a souvenir as well. Price:GBP2.95.

8)Got some foods from Harrods too. Cakes cost GBP2.40 however, some not in the picture because I've finished them. Too tasty. Got coffee without caffein with only GBP2.95.

9)Finally, I bought teas from Whittard for GBP8.00.

In total I spent GBP99.44 which less than what I expected. Hehehe. Good right?
